Species of the Day – Phantasmal poison frog (Epipedobates tricolor)

Phantasmal poison frog is a endangered species the size of 50 cent euro coin, Their natural habitat is the Andean slopes of the central Ecuadorian Bolívar province. They have radiant color, powerful poison.
Secretions from this frog are showing promise as muscle relaxants and heart stimulants, It appears to have been declining in the northern portion of its range in Ecuador, where some populations have disappeared.
The major threat is agrochemical pollution of waterways, and habitat loss due to smallholder farming activities. It is also collected for medicinal use in Ecuador.
